Quick Survey and Sandstorm: Create Online Forms and Online Polls Quickly and Easily

Online Forms and Online Polls

During your life and career there are many times you will feel the need to ask people for their opinion or inputs to make better decisions or take more informed actions.

The most common reason for using an online poll is usually about wanting to know what others think about a product you intend to buy or create.

You may also want others to contact you or provide information in a structured manner without having to reveal your contact details. This is the most common reason for using online forms.

Creating an online form or online poll lets you send others a link to fill-in the information you are requesting. You can then analyse the collected information and take the necessary action.

Quick Survey and Sandstorm

Quick Survey is a Sandstorm app that lets you create online forms and online polls very easily without any tech-knowledge:

web hosting with davros on sandstorm

Davros and Sandstorm: Web Hosting On-Demand

Mainstream Web Hosting Services

Setting up a web hosting with a mainstream service generally involves the following steps:

  1. Signup for a paid web hosting service.
  2. Commit to an expensive long-term service plan.
  3. Use one multi-featured web hosting service for setting up all websites.

The problem with this is that you end up paying a huge amount for one multi-featured web hosting service account that you may not use efficiently.

You also end up paying for a service that you can only use for ONE purpose: website hosting.

Additionally, you do not get the option to work together on website files, with different users in a secure manner, with different access levels.

Basic Web Hosting with Davros and Sandstorm

Sandstorm lets you do much more than just web hosting. Davros is just one file storage/publishing app on Sandstorm that lets you host files and simple static HTML websites very easily without any tech-knowledge:

  1. Setup file storage containers (grains) on-demand to use for sharing/hosting web pages and documents.
  2. Drag and drop web pages and other files or entire folders for immediate upload.
  3. Enjoy enterprise-grade security built-in to Sandstorm for private and controlled shared access.
  4. Convert your file storage into file/static web hosting on-demand to use for setting up a static website or offering a private/public file download service.
  5. Backup and transfer each grain with files and folder structure to any Sandstorm server. Movement of your data is always in your control.
  6. Trash the web hosting grains when not needed.

Web Hosting with Davros is covered between 6:25 to 8:15 in the below video.

Using A Custom Domain Name

You can also use an existing domain name to use a custom sub-domain with each of your Davros grains. For this you will need access to the domain name's DNS settings.

You can enter the sub-domain on the Publish screen and you will be shown the DNS entries you need to add. For example, entering docs.iwebz.net shows the following two settings that need to be made in the DNS settings for iwebz.net

private social network collection grain

Create Your Private Social Network

Your Relationship with mainstream Social Networks

These days mainstream social networks have literally started owning your life and your data. Users trust their promises of privacy and get betrayed time and again.

Everything you share online becomes the (content) property of the social network where you are the captive content producer being used to get many other people engaged with the network.

Your both your content and personal data is also sold to third-party firms to monetize on their terms. You can also be shut out of the social network at any time and they get to keep all your content!

It is time you took back control. But you cannot do so when you use something for free... that is when you offer all your content and data to someone else with no control!

Creating a Private social network

The Sandstorm software lets you use one of 70+ apps to create web services / app work spaces.

Here are some examples:

  • Uploading and sharing files, pics and movies with the Davros (file storage) app
  • Planning events with the Wekan (kanban board) or Ethercalc (spreadsheet) apps
  • Chat with other using the Rocket.Chat app
  • Play online games with apps such as Go, Duoludo, etc.
  • Use the Collection app to share all your social network grains together

You get the idea!

Your Content In Your Control

Create, Use, Share, and Dispose grains whenever you want to. Launch a Wekan grain to plan a birthday party and trash it when you're done! Share pics using a Davros grain and trash it when you do not wish to share any more.

You can invite guest users and define their access at any time. Remove their access by deleting their invite link (token).

When you don't need your content & data online you can download each grain for later restoration.

Only your user account has access to your data and you don't answer to anyone!
